Dr. Eugene Hughes is a psychologist and clinical psychotherapist working in private practice, organizations, and academia. He has extensive experience supporting individuals suffering from acute anxiety, depression, burnout, past trauma, sexual abuse, gender-related issues, and a loss of sense of self.
He has a specialist interest in the roles of creativity and nature in our psychological development and mental health. He has extensively researched and developed a unique approach to integrating creativity and nature into clinical practice. His work contributes to a growing recognition in the field of psychology that the mind, body and environment work in tandem, and that psychotherapeutic approaches must reflect this.

He has led nature-based self-development programs in China, Africa, Europe, and North America, ranked among The Times and SELF Magazine’s top twenty life-changing experiences.
He is the founder of Artgym, a multi-award-winning consultancy that applies behavioral science to the workplace. Eugene has mentored the seniors leaders of organizations such as Adidas and Sony Music to foster working cultures of creativity, collaboration, and wellbeing.
In 2017, he directed The Moving Theatre, a documentary exploring people’s migration experiences. The film won ten international awards, including Best Documentary at the London Independent Film Festival and the National Film Awards in the UK.
He has also directed numerous large-scale community art projects exhibited at institutions like The Centre for Social Change and Kingston Museum in London.
His forthcoming book, Alone with Nature: The Psychology of Environmental Attunement, will be published by Bloomsbury Academic Publications in 2025.
